BEHIND THE PIECE
with zora montague

Starting in February of 2022, and ending in December of 2024, Zora Montague crafted the first ten pieces of her lyrical project, PROJECT 405.

Montague co-wrote "DESTRUCTION" and "PURE" with her best friend, Grant Meese, and finished her writing in Joshua Tree National Park. Editing was finalized in October of that year, and she published the first part, "405", on December 5th, 2024.

Following the success of the first few pieces, Montague released "101" and "210" in February and November of 2025, respectively.

Presented below are the stories behind Zora's writing and glimpses into the process of writing her most beloved project yet.

QUIN.
&
FUTILE.

I don't think I'd ever cared for someone more than I did for my best friend. QUIN is about the last few months of our friendship before we couldn't talk anymore, and FUTILE is about learning what had happened, and struggling to grasp the truth in it all. I wrote the first few lines of FUTILE while taking the SAT and luckily remembered them afterwards. The impact that someone can have on your life during a very short period of time is amazing, and so very real. I miss you every day, and I wish I could write you a letter, hug you one last time.

DESTRUCTION.
&
LUST.

I co-wrote "DESTRUCTION" with Grant Meese. It's about politics, and I finished it on my own after Donald Trump was elected. We intended to provide our own commentary on the state of American politics and the "woke" liberal agenda in the months leading up to the election. "LUST" is also very political; it details a sexual assault and a very real world of violence against women. 1 in 3 women are raped, a scary statistic, and I don't think we should ever have to walk outside and feel scared of what could happen to us.
